Roygbiv Bass for MicroKorg (Boards of Canada Tutorial)
As a quarantine special, here's a tutorial for how I made the iconic bass sound from my cover of Boards of Canada's "Roygbiv." Hint: it's an easy retro-inspired bass sound with a lot of character and grit. So easy, in fact, that you should be able to recreate this bass on any digital, analog, hardware, or software synth. But I've taken the time to explain it in full (nearly 20 minutes worth of content), because it's a REALLY interesting sound. This bass sound is perfect for artists working in synthwave, IDM, ambient, downtempo, and other chilled and retro-inspired genres. Please leave a comment below if you've used this sound in your music!

Roygbiv Synth Lead for Microkorg (Boards of Canada Tutorial)
Просмотров 11 тыс.6 лет назад
Here's the long-awaited tutorial for the lead synth in my cover of Boards of Canada's IDM classic, "Roygbiv." Though this iconic synth lead was created on a MicroKorg, similar principles should apply to any subtractive or virtual analog synth. It's not a perfect copy of the original lead. But it's a warm vintage sound you can use in your own songs! Follow along (as best as you can)! Free patch ...
How I Used the MicroKorg for Ambient Pads
Просмотров 22 тыс.6 лет назад
Well, I spoiled it already. I was asked numerous times the last few months to show a particular pad patch from my MicroKorg. But as luck would have it, it turned out to be a factory preset. So I decided to show not one, but TWO patches for ambient pads. I also discuss why it's ok to use factory patches in music, and how I used them creatively. Enjoy! Beauty (Ambient Sequence for Korg Minilogue and Ableton Live)
Просмотров 6 тыс.6 лет назад
Sorry for the wait on new videos. I've been in the process of getting new equipment that will help me film, edit, and upload faster. But in the meantime, I wanted to show you my new Korg Minilogue. I've waited 10 years to get an analog synth, and Korg has NOT disappointed me here. Here is a quick and happy musical sequence, mutated through different waveforms and modulations on the Minilogue, a...
NOTHING NEW | Vaporwave 80s VHS Music Video by Ian Felpel

There's nothing new under the sun. But at least those old VHS tapes you filmed of cool music videos in the 80s are back. So enjoy the aesthetic. You can get the song (minus the annoying VHS effects, if you can't handle it) on Bandcamp: ianfelpel.bandcamp.com/track/- This is an original vaporwave song made with MicroKorg, Squier Jaguar, and some 80s drum samples through Ableton. I will not confi...
Is the MicroKorg Terrible? (Synth Vlog)
Просмотров 70 тыс.6 лет назад
Is the MicroKorg a terrible synth? Are the minikeys too tiny and toy-like? For what it's worth, I give a short vlog/overview of the MicroKorg's cons or drawbacks, while discussing all the pros and why I love Korg's little instrument. MicroKorg, iPhone & 909 (or Why I Won't Buy the New iPhone)
Просмотров 4197 лет назад
What happens when you combine a MicroKorg, an iPhone, and Roland TR-909 drum machine sounds? You get a heavy acid techno jam and a very angry Apple customer who wants the headphone jack back on the new iPhone 8 and iPhone X. Otherwise, this guy won't buy one. P.S. This is just a joke/roast of the new iPhones. In all seriousness, as much as I hate that Apple won't put back the headphone jacks, t...
How to Make Modern EDM Bass on MicroKorg (TUTORIAL)
Просмотров 13 тыс.7 лет назад
In this MicroKorg tutorial, I reveal one of my top-secret custom bass patches, and how you can make it. It has a great metallic and distorted sound that fits well in modern EDM genres like dubstep, bass house, riddim, and other trending dance tunes in 2017. The bass sounds you can achieve with Massive and Serum are great, but you simply haven't heard what the tiny yet powerful MicroKorg can do....

Tribute Trailer to "The Shining" (Original Sound Design)
Просмотров 70010 лет назад
I decided to re-edit Stanley Kubrick's film adaptation of Stephen King's "The Shining" into a sort of tribute trailer. Using only the original dialogue from the film, I composed/designed a background score for the trailer. This was my final project for Digital Audio Fundamentals (DIGA161A) at Stetson University. Original film is owned by Warner Bros. Pictures. Re-editing and music/weird sound d...

The Bermuda Triangle - LIVE at WHS Coffeehouse (November 16th, 2012)
I applaud your use of the flanger as a chorus. I used to use that at very low recycle frequency for the destructive interference for my guitar with my old Ross flanger, before it somehow cooked itself. I've never yet seen another hardware flanger that can go that low in the recycle rate, but if the micro-korg can then that's really cool. The best I've achieved is using U-he Colour Copy. Funny thing is that after I set the knobs right to get that shimmer for the low notes of an E chord, I could then play anywhere on the neck, and it sounded amazing!
super helpful tutorial thank u!!
Linkin Park used it as well. I'm totally buying one.. People who trash talk it are ignorant
I am just learning my Microkorg S and I appreciate the indepth explainations and the settings in the lower left of the video.
I'm LATE to this PARTY!! YOOOO!! THIS IS DOPE!!!!
Can the microkorg replicate the sound of a Fender precision string bass guitar?
CATTE
wow love this
I LOVE THIS MAN.
Based cover man
Awesome... this video should have a billion views
brilliant work, the kitty is a perfect addition
very educational regardless of the created sound. which was also nice!
i love you. I grew up with BoC, now I can start make music i love, thaaaanks a lot!
you can't imagine how much informative this is, I've been wanting to really get into synth patch-making but I couldn't find any video that would allow me to comprehend what dynamics matter more. you do this brilliantly, thank you
I recently bought a microkorg s from a friend a couple of weeks ago. Last night I went through the first six soundbanks (I didn't bother with the sound effects and vocoder soundbanks). I wanted to figure out which sounds I wanted to keep and which can be replaced with patches. Out of 144 sounds, I only like or can tolerate 67 of them. So that is 77 sounds that sound really crap to me.
this is equal in comparison to the original
Zabawne.
This is masterful work. Well done man 👌
I know ROYGBIV is an insanely simple song but it appeals to me in a way most songs just don’t. That thing BoC was striving for, the feeing of being a child, is somehow captured in that track. Easily a top 5 track of mine, all time.
You are awesome! thank you! Can you do Tobacco or BMSR at all?
MicroKorg showing up big for this one.
This is unsettling, I don't know why.. (It was cuz it was used in a analog horror I remember now)
Probably because news616
@@local59_Studios yea that one
@@local59_Studios bro news616 inspired me so much
Brilliant cat sound
Amazing!
You’ve got good taste mate 👍😎✨
How the hell do you have under 100k subs. Incredible video brother!!!
Brilliant!
Amazing video, subscribed. Just grabbed a Microkorg last week and love seeing how versatile it is. Somehow it’s just an absolute monster. Sounds better than anything else I’ve owned to my ear and I’ve owned a lot of synths. It just has a charm about it when used properly.
Terrific!
I recently replaced the keybed in my unit, and I was shocked at how simple it was inside.
i got my microkorg a couple years ago and, being an enormous admirer of boc, your videos have been such a huge surge of knowledge and inspiration. this cover is just amazing. thank you for your work and output!
For some reason when I tried to save this it didn't save
thank you for this! I love this
I have a deepmind and when i route lfo to pitch it just sounds like a record that was left in the sun too long, NOT like boards of canada LOL even with a very slow rate and little depth
The build quality is on par with the cost of the machine...and you could always use a good Midi keyboard....it is a little monster of a synth....
The reason why i know about the microkorg is because samiyam who's an interesting musician exclusively uses this and the sp404 on everything he does. His self titled album is almost entirely this one synth with the 404 sampler
this is one of the best retro songs i have EVER heard in my life, thx for making this song its so good
Great tutorials and special thx for the explanation
Nice tutorial dude
¡Excelent! ¡Brillant! ¡Beautiful!
Beautiful tone the end wow
I did not expect banjo. nobody expects banjo.
How could it be the worst...it's been around for 20 years. Keys are fine. There are many micro keyboards. Casio has smaller.
If the mini keys is a pain in the arse...Get a full size keyboard midi controller. Starting out like that would be brilliant ... and you would look good on stage
You are a perfect tutor. You made it easy to follow along. Thank you!
This deserves a bazillion more views 👌
A beautuful cover. The BoC brothers should be proud.
Awesome tutorial! Just saved it into my MicroKorg! Thanks so much!
It's a great synth, nuff said ✌️
